·        Dr. Abdelaziz Bilal: The Authority has scientific and applied capabilities enabling it to convert satellite data into information and services that serve state sectors

Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in a step considered one of the key institutional cooperation moves in the field of space and its applications, the Egyptian Space Agency and the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences announced their agreement to launch a strategic cooperation track. This includes signing a cooperation protocol in the coming period and initiating a package of joint projects aimed at maximizing the benefits of space technology to achieve sustainable development goals.

This came during a meeting between Dr. Eng. Maged Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Space Agency, and Dr. Abdelaziz Bilal, Acting President of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Space Agency.

During the meeting, Dr. Maged Ismail affirmed that the Egyptian Space Agency possesses advanced national capabilities and integrated infrastructure that support the localization of space technology. He highlighted the Agency’s capacities in operations, testing, and assembly, as well as control and ground receiving systems developed by Egyptian experts.

For his part, Dr. Abdelaziz Bilal emphasized that the Authority has substantial scientific and applied capabilities that qualify it to transform satellite data into value-added information and services serving various state sectors. He also noted the continuous development of the Authority’s technological infrastructure, including the enhancement of ground receiving capabilities and advanced technical equipment.

Both sides indicated that the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences will serve as the applied arm of the Egyptian Space Agency in converting satellite data into direct executive solutions within vital sectors, foremost among them agriculture, water resources, environment, urban planning, coastal management, risk management, and climate change.

The two parties agreed that cooperation will include training and capacity-building programs, in addition to organizing conferences and workshops at both the local and international levels, with a particular focus on strengthening cooperation across the African continent through joint scientific and applied events, exchange of expertise, and enhancing the efficiency of African cadres in the fields of remote sensing and space applications.

This agreement paves the way for signing a cooperation protocol that will define work tracks and implementation mechanisms, opening the door to a qualitative leap in localizing space technology, maximizing its developmental returns, and positioning Egypt as a regional hub supporting applied space uses in Africa.
