Course Overview

Objective: Provide advanced knowledge and practical skills in remote sensing, covering radiometric calibration, atmospheric correction, pan-sharpening, classification, accuracy assessment, change detection, time series analysis, and professional map layout and export techniques using ENVI.
Duration: 4 sessions, 4 hours each.
Target audience: Intermediate to advanced GIS and remote sensing users.

Course Outline

• Remote sensing technologies and system components

• Electromagnetic spectrum and sensor types

• Image properties and distortions

• Radiometric calibration & atmospheric correction (QUAC, FLAASH)

• Pan-sharpening algorithms: Brovey, PCA-based fusion, Gram–Schmidt, CN

• Supervised & unsupervised classification (MLC, SVM, ISODATA, K-Means)

• Accuracy assessment (confusion matrix, overall accuracy, producer/user accuracy, Kappa, F1-score)

• Change detection techniques (image differencing, post-classification comparison, change vector analysis)

• Time series analysis (Landsat, MODIS, Sentinel-2: decomposition, harmonic regression, BFAST)

• Professional map layout and export (PDF, PNG/JPEG, GeoTIFF)

Learning Outcomes

• Apply radiometric calibration and atmospheric correction to raw imagery.

• Perform pan-sharpening using multiple algorithms.

• Conduct supervised and unsupervised classification for land cover mapping.

• Assess classification accuracy with professional metrics.

• Detect and analyze land cover changes over time.
